Hello!

Does one take a photograph or make a photograph? The word “taking” seems to imply removing value and the word “making” sounds like it’s adding value. I’ll go with the later thank you. That’s the one that feels right.

Seeing joy or deep concentration in people who are performing or just being themselves is exciting to me. Happiness, curiosity and other feelings can be observed almost anywhere where people gather. When we see depictions of emotion, calmness or focus in photographs we immediately feel empathy. This is why I love making pictures. I am driven to capture these atmospheres through the artistic use of photography. A picture, like music or a story well told, is mostly about delivering a feeling.

I am in the (never ending) process of uploading content to the site. The next area of content that will make it up is a genre of photography that strongly interests me and that is humanitarian photography.

Appearing over the next weeks will be photos from a recent trip to North East India (Assam & Meghalaya) where the group I traveled with were studying the impact of globalization (and it’s new flood of information) on young people and their families. Other themes touched upon during the trip were migration, education, health and the status of women in tribal societies. The younger people and the energy they displayed was nothing short of astounding. The trip as a whole was an affirmation as to why photography is so important, useful and yes, fun.
